How often can you file chapter 7 bankruptcy?
Attorney Jim Monroe discusses how often can you file chapter 7 bankruptcy.
Steve: I had a stroke 11 years ago, and I filed for bankruptcy Chapter 7, seven years ago. The date is 5-17-11. I was just curious, nothing that I needed, but could I file bankruptcy a second time?
Attorney Jim Monroe: The answer, Steve, is yes, but for a Chapter 7 it has to be eight full years from the date you originally filed your other bankruptcy, other Chapter 7. Now, you're eligible for filing a Chapter 13 right now, but it is eight full years from the date you initially filed your first Chapter 7.
Attorney Tom Olsen: All right. Thank you, Steve.
