Why are there so many Camp Lejeune TV ads

Attorney Tom Olsen: Mike, you're on WDBO. Go ahead.

Mike: Yes, sir. I'm a Vietnam Veteran from the '60s, and I'm getting bombarded with all these phone calls from attorneys that are trying to gouge their way into the Camp Lejeune lawsuits and whatever. What's a good, reliable source that you can rely on, because there's so many attorneys sitting on this, it sounds like? What's my best direction to go on this?

Tom: Mike, let's talk about this for a minute. Mike, not that I watch-- I skip over commercials, everything I watch on TV is recorded, but I am blown away by how many Camp Lejeune commercials there are on TV. You don't watch any TV, Chrissy, so I'm telling you something you don't know.

Attorney Chris Merrill: Right.

Tom: But what does that tell me? There must be a huge pot of money out there, I guess the government's paying, because so many lawyers are pursuing this. It is unbelievable. Left and right and up and down and different lawyers and different firms are all pursuing Camp Lejeune claims. It's unbelievable.

Chris: Mike, also to you, why do you think it's happening now? What happened to trigger this?

Mike: What happened, apparently from, I don't know, 1958 to 1983 or something like that, they found that there was a lot of contaminants in the chemicals due to the nature of the occupations out there. They're saying that yes, a lot of guys are susceptible to a whole bunch of diseases, and you just don't know what's right.

Tom: Yes, so not only are they advertising for our servicemen and women, they're saying if you are married to a serviceman, if you are the child of a serviceman. I'm just speculating, but all I can suggest is maybe the government set aside a $2 billion fund to pay off Camp Lejeune victims, and that's why all these lawyers are out there pursuing it. Mike, as far as knowing one lawyer from another, I wouldn't know one from another. I suppose you could Google them and try and figure out which one might be best for you. Mike, I would not be able to recommend somebody for you.

Chris: Because it's all personal injury.

Tom: It is, and these are nationwide law firms that are all pursuing these cases. Mike, I'm sorry I can't be of more help to you, but is this something you think you're going to pursue?

Mike: I was in Camp Lejeune for a couple of months over there going through infancy training regiment with the Marines, so yes, I'm involved with it. Definitely, yes. I'm going to pursue it and just see what happens. If I come back with any information that's usable, I'll let you know.

Tom: Thank you, Mike.
