Do you need to list or itemize your investment and bank accounts in your will?

Attorney Tom Olsen: I think his expectation was that he had quite a few investment accounts. I think his expectation going into this thing is that he was going to have to list or itemize his investment account numbers, and if he changed an investment account, he'd have to change his will. He was thinking, but no, that's not the case. His will is quite simple. He's got two sons. I said, "Your will is going to say when you pass away, you leave everything equally to your sons. You do not need to list or itemize the assets within the will itself."

Attorney Chris Merrill: Many people have that thought as this client did, and that I think is a pleasant surprise for them. For us, it is the biggest compliment when people share with us at the end of that conversation, "Thank you for making it easy for me. Thank you for making it simple. I thought it was going to be more--" To me, for us, we know that is the biggest compliment that we have made it simple for them, and now they are more willing to follow through with the process.

Attorney Tom Olsen: Exactly.
