How to avoid probate
Catherine: How do my husband and I avoid probate? We have two adult children. We have no monetary assets. We have our home and our vehicle. That is it.
Attorney Tom Olsen: Okay, Catherine. Good news is the Olsen Law Group, we're all about helping people to avoid probate, so let's cover an easy one first. Here in the state of Florida cars, boats, vehicles, automobiles, motor homes, they don't go through probate. Don't worry about those. Then number two, we have a great tool for avoiding probate on your home, Catherine, is called a lady bird deed. It's a deed that we would prepare. It would state that as long as you are alive, it is your home to do with as you please, but when you've passed away, your home would automatically go to your kids. No headaches, no hassles, no probate.
Now Catherine, we have a free booklet we can offer to you. It's called Easy Ways to Avoid Probate. It talks about those particular issues but also how to avoid probate on your bank accounts, checking, savings CDs. Catherine, we would be pleased to assist you with either getting that booklet to you or remember that we do offer a free initial consultation to talk about your estate planning and tools to avoid probate. Catherine, does that answer your question for you?
Catherine: It does. It was quite to the point, so I thank you so very much because we are very concerned. My children were, my two sons, about probate and it would be a 50/50 period. You did and-- go ahead.
Tom: Catherine, we would be pleased to assist you. We're talking about avoiding probate for your kids, how to make things simple, easy, inexpensive when you pass away. One of the nice things about that, Catherine, is if we can make things simple, easy, inexpensive for your kids, they're going to be much less likely to be arguing with each other when the time comes. Catherine, we're all about helping you at the Olsen Law Group. Again, we have free booklets, Easy Ways to Avoid Probate, or we offer a free initial consultation to talk about that. Catherine, we can do that initial consultation in person at our office or over the phone or via Zoom, whatever you prefer, Catherine.
