What an attorney needs to know to do your estate planning
Attorney Tom Olsen: Bob, you're on WDBO. Go ahead.
Bob: Yes, sir. I lost a loved one of 34 years, and I have no dependents. What I want to do is set up an estate. What information do I need to give to you?
Tom: Typically, to do estate planning for people, there's three things we need to know, and that is number one, how is your wealth going to be divided when you pass away? Whether it's children, friends, charities, you name it, we need to know how that happens. That can be dollar amounts. It can be percentages. It can be a combination of both.
Number two, we need to know who's going to take care of business for you when you pass away. Who's going to be your executor, personal representative? We like to have a first and second choice.
Number three, who would make healthcare decisions for you? If you were in a car wreck and you were comatose, who would decide what doctors, what hospitals, what medications? With those three things answered, Bob, everything else should be pretty smooth.
Bob: Okay. All right, that's good. Thank you.
Tom: Thank you, Bob. We appreciate it. By the way, at Olsen Law Group, we offer a free initial consultation to talk about your estate planning. We can do that consult in person, over the phone, via Zoom, and we offer Saturday appointments, Bob. We look forward to being of service to you. Call the Olsen Law Group in Orlando at 407-423-5561.
